Data usage and coverage
Coverage, choosing the right plan, and how much data you'll need.
Frequently asked questions
Which countries does my plan cover?
Each plan lists the exact countries it covers on its own page. A single-country plan covers one destination, while a regional plan covers many countries on one plan.
Should I choose a regional or a single-country plan?
For one destination, a single-country plan is usually the better value. For a trip across several countries, a regional plan keeps you connected as you cross borders without buying a separate plan for each.
How much data do I need?
As a rough guide, light use like maps and messaging runs to around 500MB to 1GB a week, regular browsing and social media around 1GB a day, and streaming or hotspot use more. If you're unsure, a slightly larger plan costs little and saves you running out. Our guide to how much data you need breaks it down by activity.
What happens when my data runs out?
Your connection stops until you add more data. Our plans can't be topped up, so if you run out, buy a new plan and install it alongside your current one.
Can I top up or add data to my current eSIM?
No, our plans can't be topped up. If you need more data, buy another plan and install it. Your phone can hold more than one eSIM, so you switch your data line to the new one.
Why is my data slower than I expected?
Speed depends on the local network and how busy it is, and travel data routes back through the provider's home network, which can add a little delay. Full 4G or 5G coverage still gives good everyday speeds for maps, messaging and browsing.
Will I get 5G?
You'll get the fastest network the local partner supports for your plan, which is usually 4G, with 5G in places where it's available. Speeds vary by location and network.
Can I use my eSIM as a hotspot or for tethering?
Yes, hotspot and tethering are enabled on all our plans, so you can share your data with a laptop or another device. Bear in mind that hotspot use gets through your allowance faster.
Can I make calls and send texts on my eSIM?
Our plans are data-only, so they don't include a phone number, calls or texts. Keep your home SIM for calls and texts, or use internet apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime over your eSIM data.
How do I check how much data I've used?
Your phone tracks it. On iPhone, open Settings then Mobile Data and find the travel plan; on Android, open Settings then Network and internet then Data usage. Resetting the counter when your plan starts gives you an accurate figure.
Does unused data roll over when my plan ends?
No. Each plan runs for a set number of days from first connection, and any unused data doesn't carry over once the plan expires.
