How to install a travel eSIM
A step-by-step guide to setting up your eSIM before and after purchase.
Step 1 — Check your phone supports eSIM
eSIM is supported on most smartphones from 2019 onwards. Go to Settings → About and look for "eSIM" or "Digital SIM". Compatible devices include iPhone XS and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and later.
Step 2 — Purchase your plan
Select your destination, choose a data plan, and complete checkout. Your eSIM QR code and a direct install link are emailed to you instantly upon payment.
Step 3 — Install before you depart
You need an internet connection to download the eSIM profile, so install it before you arrive at your destination.
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code
- Android: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM
- Alternatively, tap the install link in your email — it opens the correct settings screen automatically.
Step 4 — Enable data roaming on arrival
Once you land, switch your active data line to the travel eSIM and enable data roaming. Your connection activates within a few minutes as it registers on the local network.
Frequently asked questions
Do I lose my regular phone number? No. The eSIM is a data-only profile that sits alongside your existing SIM. Calls and texts on your regular number are unaffected.
Can I use hotspot/tethering? Most plans support personal hotspot. Share your connection with a tablet or laptop.
What if I need more data? Purchase a new plan and install it — the process takes under a minute.
Is my device unlocked? eSIMs require an unlocked device or a device from a carrier that supports international eSIM. Contact your carrier if unsure.
