Troubleshooting

Quick fixes for the most common eSIM problems.

Frequently asked questions

I've arrived but I have no data. What should I check?

Work through these steps in order. Turn on data roaming for the travel eSIM in your settings, set the eSIM as your mobile data line, make sure that line is switched on, then turn airplane mode on and off so your phone finds a local network. Most no-data problems are one of these settings.

Do I really need to turn on data roaming?

Yes. Your travel eSIM needs data roaming switched on to connect abroad, and this doesn't cost anything extra on your eSIM. Keep data roaming off on your home SIM so your usual carrier doesn't charge you.

My eSIM shows as connected but I still can't get online.

Try selecting the network manually. Turn off automatic network selection and choose a network from the list, or turn airplane mode on and off. If there's data left and it still won't load, restart your phone.

Do I need to change my APN settings?

Usually no, because APN settings apply automatically on both iPhone and Android. The one common exception is an iPhone in Japan: if you have no data there, set the APN to vmobile.jp in your settings.

My eSIM won't install, or the QR code won't scan.

Make sure you're connected to wifi, the whole QR code is visible on screen, and you haven't already installed it, since each code installs once per device. If scanning keeps failing, use manual entry with the details from your confirmation email. Our install guide covers both methods.

I get an error like 'unable to add eSIM' or 'invalid QR code'.

This usually means the eSIM is already installed, or the code was scanned from too far away or a low-quality screen. Check whether it's already listed under your data plans; if it isn't, try manual entry, and if that fails, contact our support team.

My data has run out. How do I get back online?

Buy a new plan and install it, as our plans can't be topped up. Your phone can hold more than one eSIM, so add the new one and switch your mobile data line to it.

I accidentally deleted my eSIM.

On the same phone, reinstall it by scanning the same QR code from your confirmation email. If it won't reinstall, contact our support team with your order reference.

Can I move my eSIM to a new phone?

No, an eSIM can't be transferred between phones. If you've switched phones, you'll need to buy a new plan on the new device.

My speeds are slow. What can I do?

Speeds depend on the local network and how busy it is, and travel data routes through the provider's home network, which can add a slight delay. Try moving to a different spot, reselecting the network, or switching between 4G and 5G in your settings.
